Are you kidding!

For some reason we are having animal issues in bulk around here.  Now I am a huge animal lover, but even I have a limit.  FYI the baby birds lived 6 days on protein shake then they died.  They stuck around just long enough for us all to become attached, we tried, every 30 minutes for 6 days we tried!

Then there is my little girl Licky running around right now with a cone on her head!  Poor thing, it is so funny and so sad at the same time.  She got bit or stung by something and had a reaction.  They had to shave the hair off both of her ears and top of her nose.  Everyone already teases her about her underbite and pigeon toes.  Now she is going around running into things…FUNNY!   The poor thing has no chance.

chelseaThen there is Chelsea, the gift that keeps on giving.  She is here with us AGAIN at home #5 we were also home #3 but she got returned after a year.  Enough said.  It is possible to love animals and really dislike a dog.  Angie and I were joking that she could be the grand prize for challenge #2, sounds great to me 🙂

The only down side is she stinks, scratches up your couches, pee’s wherever she wants has $100 and $100 of dollars in vet bills.  Oh and she talks, at 5 a.m. because she wants a treat NOW!  She is sounding like a good grand prize to a lucky winner…lol.

Saturday mornings are the day that strange animals come through my door in the arms of my children.  Last week I told all of them “NO MORE ANIMALS!”  They laughed and ignored me, but I really meant it.  Then the unexpected happend yesterday morning.  My husband who likes to think he is not an animal lover comes walking in the house.  I look at him and in his arms is a freakin’ chihuahua! WT*ziggy

My response was “No, no, no, no!”  Lawrence laughed sat the little dog down and left.  Seriously people what is the deal?!  To me it looks like we have a second place prize for our challenge.  How lucky are we?  He even has been looked at by the vet loved by my children and given a name, Ziggy all in one day.

I really feel like someone is playing a joke on me.  What did  do to deserve this? I have come to terms with Chelsea but Ziggy has to find a home SOON!

If one more person brings an animal in my door.  I think I may pack myself up and send me off as the first place prize for the challenge.  Challengers watch out!  If you win you never know what you may get in the mail! lol

Not sure about being an animal lover, Shannon

Appreciate each moment.

I wanted to do a real quick post this morning.  I realized with the challenge going on I have not written much this week and I am always full of things to say, lol.  I am not sure why but this morning I feel like I need to point out the things that I am grateful for.  A couple of little things happened yesterday that made me think “holy crap I need to quit being a whiner”.  When I get overwhelmed with to many things on the to do list I get whinny and awnry.  It is so stupid because it is not like they are bad things on the list.  They are things like cleaning the house, grocery shopping, graduation BBQ’s, my scout troop is coming over for fishing, end of school parties things like that.  Most of it is fun stuff it just also happens to all fall in 1 day!

Yesterday I was running around doing  my errands being awnry about it with my son Anthony.  You know those days that there is just never enough time or money no matter how hard you try?  It was that kind of day.  Then me and my rotten attitude went to the store.  I was being snappy with my son and running around in my rush trying to get things done.  Then I came a round a corner and there was this woman.  She was in a wheel chair, it was very obvious she was battling cancer and she was all alone.  I smiled as I passed by her and immediately I thought I am so ungrateful!  Then I come home get on line and met yet another dear friend who is unable to conceive a child, I have met 2 wonderful women on here who are having that issue.  We also have a friend we met here on line who just found out her son has cancer.

Here I am perfectly healthy, mad because I am able to attend all of the fun things in life with my wonderful husband and 3 healthy children.  I guess my whole point is when it all comes down to it we need to appreciate all of the things we are able to do.  All of the blessings we have and beautiful people in our lives.  We need to stop letting the little things over shadow the bigger things and live in the moment because we never know what tomorrow may bring.

I have this saying on my wall in my bedroom, ” Dream as if you will live forever, live as if you only have today.”  I am going to try to live each moment I have rather than rushing through it each day.  Really there will never be enough money to make it all work, that’s just life.  There will never be enough time to do everything, but we can make the most of the time we have.

I am going to start cooking breakfast for my 7 little scouts that will be here shortly and I am so grateful I have the ability to cook for them and teach them how to fish.  This is going to be a great day and I am looking forward to every moment I have to enjoy it!

How to be Parent’s of the YEAR!

Carson-Anthony-Reagan Shannon's Boy's

Carson-Anthony-Reagan Shannon's Boy's

This morning I sit here basking in the light of Motherhood.  It takes a lot of work to be a good parent and my husband and I take the cake!  If you want to be fabulous parent’s like us there are a couple of things you need to be certain that you do.  First and foremost everyone knows that when you become parents you officially get awarded a couple of get out of jail free cards. These are to be used only when you really mess up and don’t mean to cause your children heartache and disappointment.  FYI we are all out of get out of jail free cards and our youngest is 8!

It is the end of the school year here and all of the usual things are going on.  The special field trips that the kids have worked for all year, the state reports are due, that have been worked on for a month.  Little things like that.  It’s an exciting and busy time around here.  Did I mention BUSY?  **Busy may cause certain actions that fabulous parent’s usually do not do…to our defense!

Reagan’s state report on Oklahoma, that he literally has been working on for about a month is due this morning.  It is a big deal, he will set it up at school and everyone comes around learn about Okalhoma.  He will proudly stand next to his display dressed like Toby Keith and share all of the information that he has learned this last few weeks.  He asked me to get cookie dough so we could make a BIG cookie in the shape of Oklahoma, so I did.  Last night we hurried and baked the cookie dough, put the pan on the counter to cool and ran to a baseball game.  My husband went to one game and I went to another.  After the games at 10 p.m. we finally met back at home.  Reagan and I walk in and my husband is sitting on the couch with Carson.  Reagan walks into the kitchen and starts screaming, “NO NO NO NO I can’t believe this!”  Then the tears start flowing.  I thought one of our dogs had died, but no it was much worse.  My dear husband unknowingly ate 1/2 of the sheet of cookie!  We went into a panic and my husband feeling like Super Dad offered to go get more cookie dough.  The problem is that it would take about an hour because of where we live.  After everyone calmed down for a mintue Reagan decided we could make a LITTLE cookie of Oklahoma instead.  All is well! 🙂

Then this morning rolls around.  Anthony has a field trip to go on a hike.  Mind you this is not your ordinary hike.  The kids have to pass off a very difficult physical test and there are many who do not qualify to go.  Anthony has passed off and done everything necessary to qualify.  All year he has been looking forward to this hike, it is one of his favorite things to do.  I personally had 1 role in him being able to go.  He arranged for a ride that would pick him up this morning at 5:00 a.m. because the bus leaves the school at 5:30 a.m.  All I had to do was wake him up at 4:30 a.m. this morning so he could get ready to go.  Last night I made sure he had everything packed and then I went and set my alarm for 4:30.  Oh, I forgot to mention it was set for 4:30 P.M.!!!!  So at 5:37 a.m. this morning I jumped up to look at the clock, flew out of bed in a panic and half way down the hall, I realized he had already missed the bus.  Yes, I felt like the biggest loser as I woke him up to let him know what had happened.  A very disappointed Anthony came up the stairs to greet me.  That SUCKED!

I went back into my bedroom to get sympathy from my husband and all he could say is “I am so damn glad it was you who set the alarm since I already ate the cookie.”  Thanks Hon!  Luckily they have both forgiven us , but I am sure we have not heard the end of it.  Being parent’s of the year is hard work!

My Best Friend

1 me and mom

With it being Mother’s Day tomorrow it is only fitting that today’s post be all about my Mom.  I know we all have the best Mom in the world and I really do.  Mine is also my best friend.  I am lucky enough to live close by and get to see her often.  The best times in my life have been with her and I treasure every minute of them.  Some of the funniest moments we have had have actually been over weight loss.  When I say I have tried it all, well she has tried even more!  Not because I said no to anything, only because she has been around a bit longer than I have. lol   Last week we went to a baby shower as some of you know.  At the shower they went around and asked the question “What are some of your favorite times or memories with your mom?”  I didn’t respond so I would like to share some here.

My Mom will give you anything if she thinks you need it.  Really if your shoes are hurting your feet she will offer to trade, it doesn’t matter that they are going to hurt her feet as well.  A while back my brother who lives 3 hours away had his fridge go out and then his water heater.  When she heard about the fridge she was planning on emptying hers out and sending it down.  Luckily he had a back up because I am not sure what her plan was when my Dad came home and they did not have a fridge.  When the water heater went out she literally asked my Dad if he could unhook theirs and send it down to my brother.  She hadn’t even talk to my brother to know that he had already gotten a new one. lol  That’s just how she is and that’s what is so dang cute about her is that she would go without whatever it took to make sure we are all taken care of.  Now that is the description of a Mom!

We have been on a couple of cruises together along with our girlfriends, yes it is so much fun!  The last one we went on there was a moment we had out on the balcony just talking and I was painting her toenails.  We laughed and talked for a while and I LOVE that time.  I am not sure what it was about that moment but I will always remember it. How many people really get that kind of opportunity.  If it was not for the wonderful person she is, I would not so I am very grateful.

There was a time when she had surgery and for once she let me take care of her.  It was so nice to be able to help her even though she thought she didn’t really need it.   One of the best parts of that was while she was on the pain medication she promised me a whole lot of things.  I will be collecting soon !

There are so many things I could say about my Mom, but the thing I want to say most to her is “THANK YOU!”  Thanks Mom for making me who I am and thanks for always being there.  You have taught me how to love unconditionally, be a good Mom, care for others, and how to laugh no matter what.  Incase you are wondering what I need for Mother’s Day, my fridge leaks, the water heater is to small and I need a new pair of brown shoes.  LOL  Just kidding I Love You!

A Very Blessed Daughter Shannon

*Share a story with us about your Mom in the comments, we would love to hear them.
